Lake Vestvannet is part of a tributary system to the Glomma River in Østfold. The lake is connected to Lake Mingevannet so that it is possible to travel between them by boat.

The lake has many arms and is highly varied. There are both deep sections and shallow coves and skerries. The Secchi results for Lake Vestvannet are generally lower than its sister, Lake Mingevannet.
